About pl8list
What is pl8list?
pl8list ("plate list") is a platform designed for artists to securely share and sell their exclusive music (also known as dubplates or plates).
It streamlines the dubplate workflow by providing tools for watermarking, private sharing, and direct sales.
pl8list does not intend to be a streaming or discovery platform. It operates primarily as a link sharing platform. You can post the link to your pl8list profile in your social media bios or send links directly to people - for example, when someone asks to buy plates from you.
Why was pl8list created?
pl8list was created to solve the problem of music leaks and unauthorized sharing. We wanted to provide artists with a secure way to share their exclusive content and monetize their work.
How does this compare to Soundcloud/Bandcamp?
pl8list focuses specifically on exclusive content and leak prevention. Our watermarking technology, private sharing features, and direct payment system are designed to maximize the value of your unreleased music.
How do I discover music on pl8list?
pl8list does not have a site-wide search or a feed. As you receive links from artists, you can build up your personal library of music. You can search your library to find tracks, artists, and lists you have saved. We recommend the weekly best sellers and related tracks to start your library. Have fun pl8 digging!
What is the difference between public and private tracks?
Public tracks are visible to everyone. If the track is paid, anyone can purchase and download it. These tracks are not watermarked, since there's no way to verify the buyer's identity - anyone can create a burner account or use a false name.
Private tracks are only accessible via direct link and are watermarked to help identify leakers. The artist enters the recipient's name for the watermark, so they can verify who they're sending it to. For better security, keep your plates private and send individual links (e.g., "plates for sale, DM me for a link!").
You can enable public preview for private tracks to allow people to preview the track but only buy/download it if you give them access via a share link.
How does list and track visibility work?
If you share a link to a private list, the recipient will have view access to all tracks within that list.
It's best not to include private tracks in public lists, as it can cause confusion. Private tracks are always only accessible through a share link, even if they exist in a public list. If someone purchases your public list, they will not be able to view or download the private tracks in that list unless they already have access to those tracks via share links. This remains true even if the private tracks have public preview enabled.
What is the difference between lists and dubpacks?
Lists and dubpacks are both collections of tracks that can be shared and sold. But dubpacks can only be purchased as a whole, while lists contain tracks that can be purchased individually.
To create a list, upload tracks individually and then add them to a list. You can set a price on the list, and customers can buy the whole list for that price. This can be used as a bundle discount, for example, a 3-track list for $20.00 instead of $10.00 for each track.
To create a dubpack, upload the dubpack via the dubpack upload page. The tracks will always be linked to the dubpack, and customers can only purchase them by buying the whole dubpack.
How does the watermarking work?
When you share a private track or playlist, our watermarking technology embeds a unique identifier into the audio. The watermark is inaudible to listeners but can be traced back to the original recipient via the blame tab. If your tune gets leaked, you can read the watermark from the leaked file to identify the leaker.
Please note: Public tracks and lists are not watermarked when downloaded. Since anyone can buy or download them, there's no reliable way to trace a leak. If you want higher security, set the track to private and allow public preview. This will allow people to preview the track but only buy/download it if you give them access via a share link.
The watermark is resistant to compression, file type conversion, and tempo changes. It can even usually be retrieved if only a section of a file is blamed.

How does crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding lets you set a fundraising goal that must be met before your track can be downloaded. Anyone can contribute any amount toward the goal. If the goal is reached before the deadline, the track becomes available for download exclusively to contributors.
After a successful campaign, pl8list collects all contributions and you receive 90% of the successfully collected contributions. A small percentage of contributions may fail, but we have safeguards in place to prevent this. You'll receive all successfully collected contributions after the campaign ends.
Once you create a crowdfunded track, the pricing mode, goal amount, and deadline cannot be changed. The track remains locked until the goal is reached by the set deadline.
If the deadline passes and the goal is not met, nobody is charged and the track stays locked.
